It was a neat little museum. If you don't know much about the Royal Mounds then I recommend it. If you know the history and archeology of it then you might skip it. It's pretty small and a fair amount of the artifacts are copies.
The area is lovely but the museum is organised a bit awkwardly. Lots of empty space, seems targeted at young school groups?
Information was great, some awesome artefacts and the shop was good.
Really interesting history surrounding this beautiful area and the museum was also nice. We got to go into the 1,000 year old church right before they closed for the day. It’s a small church so you only need a few minutes to look around.
A bit expensive for a place that can be visited in 30 minutes: nothing prevents you from stopping by for longer, though, there are seats. I have been told I could also come back a second time with the same ticket, I guess it could be useful if I happen to be in the area on a rainy day.
Obviously recommended for anyone who is into Viking history, don't forget to have a look at the nearby mounds as well.
The coffee from the local coffee machine was surprisingly lukewarm, unfortunately
Interesting view into the history and archeology of the burial mounds and other parts of relative immediate area. Information for those who want it as well as some fun stuff to keep kids busy. Smaller in size but offers a card good for return visits with next year, so basically a membership with entry purchase. There were some historical actors on the grounds on the day we went which was a bonus.
Beautiful museum on the right spot. The three burial heights are magnificent view from the auditorium. Lot of information about the viking age. Especially suited for families with kids. The authentic boat house is filled with kid-size viking outfits. The entry ticket is valid a hole year, which is necessary if you intend to suck up the information. A coffee and a souvenir shop completing the set.
Gamla Uppsala is the ideal place to visit if you, like me, are interested in the Vendel to Viking periods of Sweden and Scandinavia. Walking by the royal mounds and spaces once occupied by the famous Vikings makes everything seem almost like a dream, and once you are in the museum, you really get a sense of how life once was for this very well-known (or perhaps not quite) group of people. With informative plaques lining every space of interest, and a fascinating collection of excavated objects on display at the museum, this place is a must visit for all who want to travel back in time.
Entertaining, educational, and interactive museum. Engage all five-senses in learning history! Paid 80 SEK as a student for a year pass and did not regret it at all. Check their facebook page for various activities. Would be a joy to visit with family, as the place is very kid-friendly.
